About Urdu Keyboard

A fast, free and private way to write Urdu online — built for the millions who think in Urdu but type on an English keyboard.

Urdu is written in a beautiful but complex Nastaliq script, and most people who speak it every day still type on keyboards laid out for English. That mismatch makes writing Urdu online harder than it should be. Urdu Keyboard exists to close that gap: type the way a word sounds in English and get correct Urdu script back, instantly.

What we believe

A writing tool should be immediate, honest and respectful of your privacy. So everything here runs in your browser, nothing you type is uploaded, and the whole editor keeps working even without an internet connection. There is no account to create and no limit on how much you can write.

How it works

Typing is powered by a transliteration engine that pairs a curated dictionary of common Urdu words with a phonetic rule engine for everything else — names, slang and loanwords. When a Roman spelling could map to more than one Urdu word, you get suggestions instead of a silent guess. Alongside it sit an on-screen phonetic keyboard, Urdu voice typing and a set of small tools for converting, cleaning and counting text.

Typography matters

Urdu deserves to look like Urdu. The site sets text in Noto Nastaliq Urdu with the generous line height Nastaliq needs, and every export — Word, PDF or print — keeps the right-to-left direction and calligraphic styling intact.
